"What Waits Beyond" is a three-movement work for flute (doubling alto flute & piccolo) with piano accompaniment that explores the anticipation, uncertainty, and excitement of being called to adventure.  The first movement, featuring the flute, opens with curiosity and a sense of longing for something more.  The piano leads into movement two, joined by the alto flute with a gentle melody representing the call to adventure.  The piece concludes with the first step and embarking on this new journey, represented by the sparkly characteristics of the piccolo.
